Girls' Basketball Prepares for Sub-State

Since a victory in the mid-season Sedgwick tournament, the girls’ basketball team has been struggling to pick up another win. The girls were defeated by the Garden Plain Owls on Feb. 12. The next test was Senior Night against Bluestem, where the girls led at halftime, but could not hold the lead 4th quarter. They traveled to Chaparral on Feb. 19, where they came back with a loss.

Their last regular season game was played on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Wichita Independent where the Dragons were defeated by the Panthers. They will play their first game of Sub-State at Wichita Collegiate on Tuesday, March 3.

Although it has been a tough season for BPHS girls’ basketball, many of their struggles are due to inexperience. Throughout the season, the team has been led by junior Taylor Scott, the only upperclassmen, along with sophomores AnneMarie Hamersky, Morgan Crenshaw, and Brynn McIntyre. Scott, jr., and Hamersky, jr., comprise a large portion of the Dragons’ scoring. Many freshmen have also stepped up to the challenge of playing at the varsity level. The Lady Dragons rely heavily on freshmen Ciarra Myers, Brittany Balsters, Kelly Hunt, and Jamie Wilkerson.
