New Superintendent for 2010-2011 School Year Announced
As some of you may know, our current superintendent Mr. Poage is retiring after the 2009-2010 school year comes to a close. The Belle Plaine School Board has hired a new superintendent, Dr. Kane.
Dr. Kane is coming from Grinnell, KS. She has been a superintendent at Grinnell for about four years, and in an administrative position for about 16 years. Before that, she was a 6th grade science teacher, but she had also taught 1st and 4th grade.
She started her education at Colby Community College and later attended Mary of the Plaines in Dodge City, KS to earn her Bachelor of Science degree. She completed her post graduate studies at Pittsburg State University and Walden University for her Doctorate in Administrative Leadership for Teaching and Learning. Her work experience includes working as a middle school sports director, the principal in Dodge City, and she has also was a classroom teacher in Garden City.
When asked what drew her to the position at Belle Plaine, she said that enjoyed meeting the administrators, faculty, and board members here. She also liked that Belle Plaine has high student academic achievement levels, and the emphasis on technology.
Dr. Kane noted that even though Grinnell is smaller than Belle Plaine, she has had experience in both small and large districts, and looks forward to being a part of the community. Dr. Kane will finish up the current school year in Grinnel and begin working at Belle Plaine for the 2010-2011 school year.
