Senior Riding Into Fame....Literally!

Lacey Johnson is a senior from Belle Plaine, KS. She is a person of many talents, including 4 wheeling and sometimes even mudding; but the one that stood out to us the most is her skill on a horse. She has been riding for about 13 years now, and when she’s not watching events in a rodeo she is often competing in them. She owns 15 quarter horses. With them she competes in barrel racing. pole bending, and break away. 1. The goal in barrel racing is to race around three barrels and finish as soon as possible. a. (3 barrels, you go right, left, left or vice versa) First the rider goes out of the box circles to the left of the first barrel; then right of the second barrel and then right of the 3rd barrel and then to finish. 2. The goal in pole bending is to weave and run in between and around the poles to finish in the quickest time possible. a. First you run down past all 6 poles and then weave in between them on your way back and back up. On your last straight away you sprint to the finish. 3. The goal in break away is to rope a calf and let it go as fast as you can to win. a. The person breaks from a holding pit then they have to rope a calf around the neck, and let it go the quickest. We asked her what place that she normally gets and she says that she normally gets first with an occasional 2nd or 3rd place. So far she said she’s done about 6 competitions this year and has about 220 left. We can only wish her luck!
