Girls Basketball Struggles Mid-Season
Although the Lady Dragons experienced early success before Christmas, the team has struggled to pick up a win in the new year. The team traveled to Bluestem on Jan. 5, but came back with a loss, despite their four point lead at halftime. Bluestem pulled away during the third quarter, giving Belle Plaine their fourth loss of the season.
The girls’ next test was against the Wichita Independent Panthers for their Homecoming game on Jan. 8. The game didn’t go Belle Plaine’s way and the girls came away defeated. The Lady Dragons would continue to fight to pick up a win the next two games against Conway Springs on Jan. 12 and Medicine Lodge on Jan. 15, but both games proved unsuccessful for Belle Plaine.
The girls played in the Sedgwick Invitational last week, where they picked up their first win. The tournament opener was against the hosting school, and Belle Plaine was defeted by the Cardinals. The Lady Dragons lost to Huth-Trintiy on Thursday, but came went back on Saturday to defeat Fairfeld.
After three straight losses to Wichita Trinity, Douglass, and Cheney, the girls hope to pick up a win at Garden Plain on Friday, Feb. 12. Senior night will be the following Tuesday on Feb. 16.
