"Come Out and Play" at Homecoming
The first week back at school was homecoming week for BPHS. The theme for this year was “Come Out and Play.” Students arriving back to school on January 4 were asked to dress up in their best snow attire for the dress up day. Tuesday was Chocolate and Gold day since there was a basketball game January 5. Wednesday students were invited to “Come out and play in the rain” and wear their best rain gear. Thursday they supported their favorite team, Friday they hunted the Independent Panthers in their camo.
The activities during homeroom varied from stuffing long johns with balloons to the candidate egg toss. The seniors won the long john contest, and Aubrey Shivers, sr., and Ian Wilkerson, sr., won the egg toss contest for the freshmen.
The queen candidates for this year’s winter homecoming were Ashley Graber, sr., Brandi Brown, sr., Kate Newell, sr., and Aubrey Shivers, sr. The king candidates for this year were Bubba Wilson, sr., Tony Ferraro, sr., Trevor Corbett, sr., and Ian Wilkerson, sr. The coronation was held directly after the boys and girls basketball game on January 8. Aubrey Shivers, sr. and Trevor Corbett, sr. were announced as the royal couple.
Homecoming week came to a close after the dance that took place in the commons after coronation.
